Γενάρης

Ξεκίνημα από ένα σημείο που δεν είναι ποτέ αφετηριακό. Νέα αρχή, όχι σε όλα, αλλά σε κάποια τουλάχιστον, στα μουσικά ας πούμε. Το μόνιμο άγχος της αναγνώρισης μέσα στο χάος θα συνεχίζεται με αμείωτη ένταση για την γκάμα των δημιουργών που θεωρούν ότι οτιδήποτε βγάζουν είναι άξιο κυκλοφορίας προς τα έξω, για όλ@ς δηλαδή, σήμερα! Για παράδειγμα, οι MMD παρουσιάζουν τέλη Γενάρη στο γνωστό ναό την τελευταία τους δουλειά που ανάθεμα κι αν ακούστηκε πουθενά από τον Σεπτέμβρη που κυκλοφόρησε. Μπας και περίμενε όλος ο κόσμος την προβολή της ταινίας που αυτή η μουσική, ζωντανά παιγμένη, φτιάχτηκε για να συνοδεύει;! Θα δείξει.

Πάντως, την ίδια σχεδόν, ημέρα κυκλοφορεί το πρώτο soundtrack που έχει την σφραγίδα του James Holden για το πολιτικό και άκρως ενδιαφέρον ντοκιμαντέρ “A Cambodian Spring”. Άραγε, την ιστορία που διαπραγματεύεται το φιλμ αυτό την είδαμε ποτέ στις ειδήσεις; Επίσης, προς τα τέλη Γενάρη κυκλοφορεί νέο άλμπουμ από τον Jay Glass Dubs στην Bokeh Versions και ακολουθεί το πρώτο διαθέσιμο κομμάτι του:

Φλεβάρης

Μετά το άπλωμα των πλάνων και τον αρχικό ενθουσιασμό έρχεται η πραγματικότητα. Οι διαψεύσεις βέβαια, έχουν πάντα καλοκαιρινό χρώμα, οπότε είναι ακόμη νωρίς για να τα βάψουμε μαύρα ή λευκά, αν προτιμάτε την αντιστροφή της γνωστής ποιήτριας. Μαύρο βέβαια, θα ντύνει τις επικείμενες εμφανίσεις των Slapshot σε Αθήνα και Θεσσαλονίκη, με την πρωτοτυπία ότι άλλοι διοργανωτές κινούν τα ηνία της πρώτης εμφάνισης και άλλοι της δεύτερης! Ας ελπίσουμε ότι δεν θα υπάρξει κάποιο θέμα με την μπάντα, γιατί ο Choke – ο τραγουδιστής της ντε- και το μόνο μέλος από την αρχική σύνθεση τους, δεν έχει και την καλύτερη φήμη ως ο ψυχραιμότερος (βλ. κυνηγητό σε ναζί, χώσιμο σε κατάληψη που φιλοξενήθηκε για ένα live στην Αγγλία και πολλά άλλα). Λογικά και το νέο άλμπουμ του Evan Caminiti των Barn Owl θα έχει το σκουράκι του κι αυτό, αλλά σε εντελώς άλλο μήκος κύματος. Επίσης, οι Xiu Xiu, ο Bob Mould και οι Teeth Of The Sea θα προσπαθήσουν να δώσουν περισσότερους χρωματισμούς κι ένα ενδιαφέρον στο μήνα με τις νέες τους δουλειές γιατί έρχεται και η άνοιξη! Πριν κλείσει ο μήνας, θα βγει στις οθόνες και η νέα ταινία του Φατίχ Ακίν Der Goldene Handshuh, οπότε όλα καλά!

 

Μάρτης

Αφήστε τα ζώδια, γιατί ο πιο ανορθόδοξος μήνας βρήκε μάλλον, το άλμπουμ που θα τον εκφράσει. Οι Snapped Ankles βγάζουν την πρώτη μέρα του μήνα το νέο τους πόνημα και το μοναδικό δείγμα που έχουμε εύκαιρο είναι καλούτσικο για τα δικά μας στάνταρ και αριστουργηματικό για αυτά που μας έχει συνηθίσει η Βρετανία εδώ και πολλά χρόνια! Από την άλλη πλευρά του Ατλαντικού ο Helado Negro από το άγνωστο πουθενά και οι Lambchop από το γνωστό παντού κάνουν ήπια την μετάβαση στην καλοκαιρία που, κάποια στιγμή, θα έρθει κι αυτή. Συναυλιακά ο μήνας ξεκινά με δύο εμφανίσεις των Sad Lovers & The Giants στο γνωστό υπόγειο των Εξαρχείων και η ελπίδα να ξεφύγουν λίγο από την προβλεψιμότητα των συνομήλικων τους σχημάτων που ζουν μια νέα εφηβεία αυτή την εποχή μένει να πεθάνει τελευταία!

 

Απρίλης

Οι πτήσεις πάνω από την Ευρώπη με μπαγκάζια μουσικά όργανα, όλο και θα πληθαίνουν. Το Borderline, που διοργανώνει η φιλόπτωχος εταιρία που δεν αφήνει τίποτα άστεγο, θα δώσει ένα άλλο χρώμα στα μουσικά της πόλης. Ακραιφνής πειραματισμός θα φέρει σε αμηχανία mainstream μουσικούς συντάκτες που προμηθεύθηκαν προσκλήσεις για την κάλυψη του φεστιβάλ. Κάπως έτσι, αποδεικνύεται πόσο δύσκολο είναι για τα εν λόγω άτομα, όχι μόνο να φτάνουν νωρίς στην ώρα τους για να δουν τα αποκαλούμενα “support”, αλλά να πρέπει να μένουν μέχρι τέλους σε συναυλία που όχι μόνο δεν έχει κιθάρες, αλλά ούτε καν μελωδίες! Έλεος κάπου!

Έχουμε και την δύσμοιρη την Record Store Day προς το τέλος του μήνα που αντί να αναβιώσει την αγάπη μας προς το βινύλιο θα αποτελέσει την ταφόπλακα του. Ο φετιχισμός των εμπορευμάτων συναντά την μανία της κατανάλωσης και το νόημα κάπου αναζητείται στο μεράκι κάποιων μικρών που αντιμετωπίζουν το όλο θέμα ως παιχνίδι με την κλασσική έννοια και όχι ως παιχνίδι στις πλάτες άλλων, μουσικών ή μουσικόφιλων! Τον δυναμικό δίσκο του μήνα μη ξεχάσουμε: Jaws – The Ceiling 5.4!

 

 

January

A beginning from a point that is hardly ever a starting point. New start, not in everything, but just in some, let’s say in music. The constant anxiety of recognition within the chaos will be continued with unbearable intensity for the music producers who believe that everything they write is worthy of public release, and that applies to all of them! For example, MMD are presenting at the end of January at the known Temple their latest work which wasn’t heard almost anywhere since September when it was officially released. Was it because everyone was waiting for the screening of the film which this album was made to accompany? We’ll see. However, almost on the same day, the first soundtrack bearing James Holden’s signature will be released. It’s the musical score composed for “A Cambodian Spring”, a political documentary, painting the picture of story which no media ever covered! There is also a new release from Jay Glass Dubs on Bokeh Visions coming up on late January and here is its first song.

February

After the unveiling of the plans and the initial enthusiasm, here comes reality. Disenchantment always has a summer shade on it, so it is still early for black and white predictions. Eventually, though, black will be the colour to characterise the two upcoming Slapshot gigs in Athens and Thessaloniki with the novelty that this time it will not be the same organising company responsible for making both concerts happen. Let’s hope that no problemwil occur because of that since Choke, the singer of the band and the only remaining original member, is not exactly the calmest guy, rumour has it (see a hunting down on nazis, an argument with a British squat which was meant to accommodate them among others). Logically, Evan Caminiti’s new album will have its own dark aesthetics but in a totally different and unique way. We‘ll also have new releases from Bob Mould, Xiu Xiu and Teeth Of The Sea that will show us more colours and a whole fresh interest in new music as spring prevails. Before this month ends, Fatih Akin’s new film, called Der Goldene Handshuh, will be released,so everything will be fine!

March

Don’t listen what the zodiac signs tell us, as the album to signify the most unorthodox month has been found. On the first day of March, Snapped Ankles release their new work and the only sneak peek available, is simply good for our standards and a masterpiece for the ones that Britain usually has presented it us with during the past years! On the other side of the ocean, Helado Negro hailing from the unknown and Lambchop from the known, make a smooth transition towards summer which won’t be far for long. This month has also two Sad Lovers and Giants concerts in store for us at the famous basement in Exarheia with the hope that they‘ll avoid the predictability of a revisited adolescence that other bands of their era seem to have dived into.

April

Flights above Europe with luggage full of instruments will be more and more frequent. Borderline festival, which is held by the well known philanthropist company, will give a whole new colour in the music affairs of the city. Acute experimentalism will bring about confusion and puzzlement to mainstream music columnists who already got the necessary passes to cover the fest. And this will prove how difficult it will be for these columnists who not only must not be late and catch the opening support acts, but also to see this through and stay till the very end of these concerts that not only lack guitars but melodies too!

We also have this miserable Record Store Day at the end of this month who instead of reviving our love towards vinyl, it will be its gravestone. The fetishising of products meets the mania of consumption and the whole meaning of this may only be found among the persistent love of some small record lovers who face this subject as a game with its classic notion and not as a game on the backs of others, musicians or music lovers.Let’s also not forget the dynamic album of the month: Jaws – The Ceiling 5.4!
