Τα τεχνολογικά επιτεύγματα είναι αναρίθμητα στις μέρες μας. Ανάμεσα σε αυτά, υπάρχουν εκείνα που έχουν καταφέρει να εκμηδενίσουν τις αποστάσεις, περιορίζοντας τα εμπόδια στην ανθρώπινη επικοινωνία, ώστε η αλληλεπίδραση μεταξύ μας να είναι ευκολότερη και σε παγκόσμια μάλιστα, κλίμακα. Η επικοινωνία πρακτικά διευκολύνεται, γίνεται αμεσότερη· διαπνέεται όμως, από ειλικρίνεια και αλήθεια; ή ορισμέν@ καλύπτονται πίσω από την έλλειψη της φυσικής παρουσίας και φυσικής αλληλεπίδρασης με τους υπόλοιπους και δημιουργούν περσόνες που ελάχιστη ή μικρή σχέση έχουν με τον πραγματικό χαρακτήρα τους;

Τέτοιου είδους σκέψεις για το πώς αναπτύσσονται τελικά, οι διαπροσωπικές σχέσεις, κυρίως μέσα από τα κοινωνικά δίκτυα απασχόλησαν τον Noel Skum, τον Andrew Clinco των Drab Majesty. Το απόσταγμα των σκέψεων καταγράφηκε σε ένα διαμέρισμα της Αθήνας το χειμώνα του 2017, όπου δημιούργησε το υλικό για το άλμπουμ Human Traffic Jam των VR SEX. Και μόνο το άκουσμα των ονομάτων που αποτελούν τους VR SEX, δηλαδή οι Noel Skum, Z. Oro -ο Aaron Montaigne των Antioch Arrow, Heroin και DBC- σε φωνητικά και ντραμς και Mico Frost -Brian Tarney- σε synths και μπάσο σε προδιαθέτει να ακούσεις το υλικό τους.

Μεγάλη μουσική εμπειρία και δημιουργικότητα στην πλάτη των μελών της μπάντας κάτι που αποτελεί, κατά κάποιον τρόπο, «εγγύηση» για το αποτέλεσμα. Μια πρόγευση της δουλειάς τους μας έδωσαν τον περασμένο Μάρτιο με την κυκλοφορία του EP Horseplay. Ακούγοντάς τους, δεν μπορείς παρά να διαπιστώσεις την ομοιότητα που υπάρχει με τους Drab Majesty· Στο LP τους Human Traffic Jam μας παρουσιάζουν μέσα από ποικιλία ήχων death rock, synth – post punk και ambient μια πιο σκοτεινή και ρεαλιστικά σκληρή θεώρηση των πραγμάτων.

Αυτό είναι ολοφάνερο στο “Maiden China” που αποτυπώνει μια ψεύτικη εικόνα που ορισμέν@ δίνουν στα κοινωνικά δίκτυα θέλοντας να εκμεταλλευτούν κάποιους εύπιστους, παρασέρνοντάς τους σε μονοπάτια που δεν έχουν καν φανταστεί δίνοντας ξεκάθαρα το μήνυμα αυτό με ένα δυνατό και σκληρό video. Στο ίδιο μήκος κύματος κινείται και το αφηγηματικό “Cheek Detritus”. Στο “Surrender” ο στίχος “…and you beg for attention to surrender” για να ακουστεί τελικά η προτροπή “sleep, go to sleep” . Στο “Sacred Limousine” στηλιτεύουν τα ΜΜΕ και την επίπλαστη εικόνα της ευτυχίας που μας σερβίρουν και αφορά το «φαίνεσθαι» και καμία σχέση με το «είναι» δεν έχει.

Και ο επίλογος του album έρχεται με το “Corridor (Epilogue)”. Χωρίς στίχους, σου δίνει τη δυνατότητα, μετά την ακρόαση του LP, να επιλέξεις τελικά, το διάδρομο που θα σε οδηγήσει μακριά από ψεύτικες εικόνες φαινομενικής χαράς και επιτυχίας στα μέρη μιας ειλικρινούς και αληθινής διαπροσωπικής επαφής με πρόσωπα που καμία σχέση δεν έχουν με την πλαστική και illustration αισθητική.

Technological achievements are innumerable nowadays. Among them are those who have managed to nullify distances, by limiting the obstacles to human communication, so that interaction between us is easier, even on a global scale. Communication is facilitated, becoming more direct, but is it inspired by sincerity and truth? or some people are covered behind the lack of physical presence and physical interaction with the others and create personas that are not related to their true character?

Such thoughts about the development of interpersonal relationships, mainly through social networks have occupied Noel Skum, Andrew Clinco of Drab Majesty. The distillation of thoughts was recorded in an apartment in Athens during the winter of 2017, where he created the material for VR SEX’s Human Traffic Jam album. The members of VR SEX, Noel Skum, Z. Oro – Aaron Montaigne of Antioch Arrow, Heroin and DBC – on vocals and drums and Mico Frost -Brian Tarney – on synths and bass, predisposes you to pay attention to their material.

Their great musical experience and creativity, is – in a way – “guarantee” of the outcome. A preview of their work was given to us last March with the release of their EP Horseplay. By listening, you can only notice the similarity with Drab Majesty. In their Human Traffic Jam, they present a darker and realistically cruel perspective through a variety of death rock, synth – post punk and ambient sounds.

This is obvious in “Maiden China”, which depicts a fake image that some people are giving for themselves to social networks with the will to exploit witty people, dragging them to paths they have not even imagined, and VR SEX are giving this message clearly with a loud and hard video. Τhe same issue goes in the narrative “Cheek Detritus”· in “Surrender” the lyric “… and you beg for attention to surrender” to hear the final phrase – prompt “sleep, go to sleep”. In “Sacred Limousine” they condemned media fake images of happiness that represent only the appearance and not the actual existence.

And the epilogue of the album is “Corridor (Epilogue)”. Without lyrics· it gives you the opportunity to choose the corridor that will take you away from false images of apparent joy and success in the parts of a sincere and real interpersonal contact with people who have no connection with the plastic and illustrated aesthetics.
