Υπό το πέπλο μιας βιβλικής νεροποντής, την περασμένη Παρασκευή πραγματοποιήθηκε το πολυαναμενόμενο live performance του κύριου Dominick Fernow ως Prurient, το κύριο harsh noise/power electronics σχήμα που τον καθιέρωσε στη σύγχρονη underground σκηνή τα τελευταία χρόνια. Λίγο αργότερα, ξεσήκωσε τους μυημένους με το δίωρο live dj set του ως Vatican Shadow, το εξίσου διαβόητο industrial techno project του.

 Η προσωπική αγάπη και βαθιά εκτίμηση για τον Fernow είναι δεδομένη, μιας και είναι από τους λίγους που έχει μπορέσει να πολιτικοποιήσει τον θόρυβο με ριζοσπαστικές αισθητικές σε καιρούς που το πολιτικό ως καθημερινή αφήγηση αποσιωπάται και να θίξει δημιουργικούς προβληματισμούς πάνω στο κυρίαρχο θέαμα ωμής βίας και σεξουαλικότητας. Πρώιμα επηρεασμένος από ένα death metal μισανθρωπισμό και φημισμένος για τα βλάσφημα “παραληρήματά” του, o Fernow, για άλλη μια φορά, επιδόθηκε σε μια μονόωρη θεαματική βαρβαρότητα κατακλυσμένη από υστερικές κραυγές, σπασμωδικά τινάγματα και λευκές ριπές ηλεκτρομαγνητικών παρασίτων. Το στοιχείο της νοσταλγίας δεν έλειψε, καθώς ο Dominick φρόντισε να επιτελέσει και κομμάτια από άλμπουμ περασμένης δεκαετίας, όπως το Cocaine Death. Αντίστοιχα, το Vatican Shadow σετ μπόρεσε νοητά να μας μεταφέρει άλλοτε σε παγωμένα υπόγεια μπουντρούμια και άλλοτε σε σύγχρονα δυτικά πεδία μάχης, πάνταμε σκοτεινά ambient και drone ηχοτοπία.

 Χρονικά, το line-up τηρήθηκε ευλαβικά με μια συνεχώς αυξανόμενη προσέλευση κόσμου μέχρι τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες. Μαζί με τον Dominick Fernow, έπαιξαν η νεοϋορκέζα συνεργάτιδά του, Becka Diamond (Hospital Productions), ο Γεώργιος Καραμανωλάκης (ΟΔΟΣ 55) με ένα άκρως μετα-αποκαλυπτικό και καρπεντερικό σετ, ο καθηλωτικός ANFS (Vanila, Modal Analysis) καθώς και οι resident DJs της δισκογραφικής π Electronics, 3.14 και DΛS. Συνολικά, η βραδιά αποτέλεσε έναν αποθεωτικό εορτασμό μιας noise υστερίας και των ενδιάμεσων industrial techno τελετουργικών, αφήνοντας εκστασιασμένο και σωματικά εξουθενωμένο το κοινό.

 Under the veil of a biblical rainstorm, last Friday, took place Dominick Fernow’s long-awaited live performance as Prurient, the main harsh noise/power electronics project which has established his name on the modern underground scene in the millenial years. Shortly afterwards, he stirred up his initiates with a two-hour live dj set as Vatican Shadow, his equally notorious industrial techno project.

 My deep appreciation and personal love for Mr. Prurient is obvious, since he is one of the few who manages to radicalize the noise with political aesthetics in times when the political as an everyday narrative is silenced and to create alternative reflections over the dominant spectacle of raw violence and sexuality. Early influenced by a death metal misanthropy and noted for his blasphemous “deliriums”, Fernow once again delivered an hourish thematic barbarity swollen by hysterical screams, spasmodic shocks and white bursts of electromagnetic parasites. The element of nostalgia stroke, while Dominick cared enough to perform tracks from last decade albums, such as Cocaine Death. Respectively, the Vatican Shadow set mind transported us either to frozen undergound dungeons or modern western battlefields, always with dark ambient and drone soundscapes.

The line-up timetable was kept strictly with an ever increasing attendance, even until the early morning hours. Along with Dominick Fernow performed his collaborator from New York, Becka Diamond (Hospital Productions), Georgios Karamanolakis (ODOS 55) with an extremely post-apocalyptic and carpenter-esque set, the immersive ANFS (Vanila, Modal Analysis) as well as the resident DJs of Pi Electronics, 3.14 and DΛS. Overall, the night consisted of a glorifying celebration of a noise hysteria and intermediate techno industrial rituals, rendering the audience ecstatic and physically exhausted.
