Second Still – Violet Phase (sentimental)

Όταν οι Second Still είχαν εμφανιστεί στην Αθήνα πριν λίγα χρόνια, αυτό που μου είχε κάνει εντύπωση, πέραν των ζωντανών τους επιδόσεων ήταν η ανεπιτήδευτη έκφραση τους που καμία σχέση δεν είχε με τα παρόμοια γκρουπ του είδους που υπηρετούν από τότε που εμφανίστηκαν. Αυτή η αυθεντικότητα τους αποκρυσταλλώνεται και δισκογραφικά στο νέο τους πόνημα. Τουτέστιν, ενώ κρατάνε το μουσικό τους dark/post punk στίγμα (βλ “Eternal Love”), καταφέρνουν να το εμπλουτίσουν με απλές συνταγές που όμως αποδίδουν τα μάλα! Απόδειξη είναι η ποικιλία στα ρυθμικά μέρη των νέων κομματιών τους, το μπάσιμο με δύο άκρως ηλεκτρονικά κομμάτια και η ανάδειξη πανέμορφων μελωδιών που σε πολύ λίγες στιγμές κάτι θυμίζουν. Κι όλα αυτά, σε λιγότερο από μισής ώρας υλικό!

Cold Showers – Motionless (dais records)

Από την άλλη, οι Cold Showers δεν δίνουν σημασία σε νεωτερισμούς και κοιτάνε να γράψουν άρτια τραγούδια με δοκιμασμένες συνταγές. Πάντα αυτό έκαναν εξάλλου, αλλά στο νέο τους πόνημα βλέπουμε μια διάθεση να ραφινάρουν τον post punk ήχο τους και μέσα από την απλότητα να φτιάξουν κάτι που θα μείνει στο χρόνο. Όχι πως δεν το καταφέρνουν αυτό σε ορισμένες στιγμές εδώ, αλλά συνολικά παρουσιάζουν έναν αργοκίνητο δίσκο που ακούγεται σαν να ανήκει σε άλλη δεκαετία. Αν συμβαίνει αυτή η δεκαετία που σας έχει σημαδέψει περισσότερο να είναι αυτή των 1980’s και ειδικά η ρομαντική πλευρά της, τότε το Motionless θα σας αφήσει ικανοποιημένους.

When Second Still appeared in Athens a few years ago, the main thing that impressed me, beyond their live performances, was their unpretentious expression that had nothing to do with similar groups of the music kind that they serve since they appeared. This authenticity is crystallized and recorded in their new work. So, while keeping their dark / post punk music mark (see “Eternal Love”), they manage to enrich it with simple recipes, efficiently! The proof is the variety in the rhythmic parts of their new tracks, the entrance with two highly electronic pieces and the emergence of beautiful melodies that in some points they remind us of something. And all this in less than half an hour!

Cold Showers – Motionless (dais records)

On the other hand, Cold Showers do not care about novices; they just want to write good songs with proven recipes. They have always done this, but in their new project we are noticing a mood to refine their post punk sound and through the simplicity of making something that will be preserved in time. It ‘ s not that they do not achieve it in some moments here, but they all show a slow-moving album that sounds like it belongs to another decade. If the decade that has marked you is the 1980’s and especially the romantic side of it, then Motionless will satisfy you.
